  • When extreme weather causes delays…

Every now and then deliveries may be delayed.

Recently there was a typhoon in China, which seriously damaged one of our suppliers factories. This caused a delay in our shipment. When we say damaged, we mean that the storm literally destroyed an entire building! Take a look at the video below…

Gratefully, it is very rare for our shipments to be delayed due to extreme weather events like these. But if it does happen we endeavour to keep our customers informed at every step along the way.

Here are some more photos from one of our suppliers of the destruction caused by the recent typhoon:

  • Choosing the Right Pavers for Your Pool

While there are many materials to choose from, adding pavers around your swimming pool can be beneficial to both homeowners, and those who are set to enjoy hours of fun splashing around. If you’re making the decision on what to cover your outdoor area with, nothing can really compare with the quality of natural stone and concrete pavers. Not only can pavers create a natural-looking environment for everyone to enjoy, but they can also withstand the effects of both chlorinated and salt-water pools. With this being said, there are many reasons why people opt for pool pavers in the landscaping of their outdoor pool areas.

    • Non-slip surface: One of the key advantages of pool pavers is the peace of mind that they are slip resistant. It is so important when installing a pool, to know that safety of your family comes first. Pavers can ensure that all your guests will be safe when playing and walking around the pool.
    • Easy to repair : The great thing about pavers is that they can be easily repaired and replaced. Instead of pulling up the entire floor, single pavers can simply be removed and replaced. Pavers are a very cost effective material when it comes to maintenance and repairs.

An assortment of pavers can create a range of looks that will suit your pool area. What Type of Paver to Use Around Your Pool

After you have made the decision to pave your pool area, there are still a number of other factors to considered. There are a number of types of pool pavers that can be used to compliment your outdoor area.

    Bluestone Pavers

As a paving material, Bluestone is extremely durable, environmentally friendly and very popular. These pavers are designed to be safe and attractive for people of all ages. Sandpapered twice with a #200 grit sandpaper, our #400 grit Bluestone has anti-slip properties that are perfect for any pool area.

    Concrete Pavers

The best thing about concrete pavers is that they allow you to enjoy a sophisticated and decorative finish. Our concrete pavers are a perfect fit for any outdoor setup, as we allow you to customise the colour and finish to suit your pool area.

    Porcelain Pavers

If you are looking for pavers with the least amount of maintenance, choose porcelain pavers. Porcelain pavers are UV resistant, and have a slip resistance of R11. They don’t need to be sealed, and are easier to keep clean than concrete or natural stone.

    Travertine Pavers

Travertine brings a sense of elegance and sophistication to any outdoor space. Because they are cooler under foot than concrete, bluestone or granite, travertine has become a very popular choice, favoured for its stylish design and timeless finish. • Where to Use Pavers Around Your Home

Pavers add a distinctive earthy, natural quality and feel to your home and are a popular choice to create a pathway, terrace, feature wall or general flooring. The trick is not only in finding the best type of pavers to use, but also the most appropriate type of pavers for specific areas of your home.

Even the best looking pavers can become a little bit lost if they aren’t in the right spot, and while some are very versatile, there are always particular places to put them that unlock and maximise their potential.

    What Are the Best Pavers?

With an abundance of pavers to choose from, it can get a bit tough sifting through the masses to arrive at the right one for your home. Some pavers that are great in commercial settings aren’t ideal for the home, so the first step is to create a shortlist of the pavers that best compliment a residential property. These include:

    1. Bluestone Pavers
    2. Travertine Pavers
    3. Granite Pavers
    4. Concrete Pavers

Each has its own distinct style and qualities that make it suitable for different areas. Of course, these aren’t hard and fast rules. No paver should be pigeonholed into one specific area, but some guidance can be extremely valuable to help you bring out the best in your chosen paver.

    Bluestone Pavers

Bluestone (also referred to as basalt) is one of the most versatile pavers you will find. It is a tough, eco-friendly material that boasts natural colour variation in its grain that can appear to change depending on time of day and light reflection.

Because of it’s classy aesthetic, bluestone pavers don’t really look out of place inside or outside the home, which makes it an attractive option if you’re looking for a material that will make a seamless transition, giving your entire house an outdoor feel.

Bluestone is sandpapered twice, which gives it the prized combination of a smooth look while being an anti-slip material. This makes it perfect for poolside walkways, particularly if you have kids, without sacrificing anything visually.

Bluestone pavers’ natural, earthy undertone makes it ideal to create a stepper pathway that compliments any ideas to have soil and planting around and in between where you’ve laid them.

    Travertine Pavers

Travertine pavers’ sophisticated, elegant look epitomises the dressed up outdoors area. If you’re looking for a paver that will give your patio or alfresco area a refined, classy feel then this is the one to go with.

Travertine pavers also serve well as an ornamental enhancer. In particular, they compliment entrance pillars and garden walls very well, but also make for fine wall cladding in general.

    Granite Pavers

Granite pavers are a dense, heavy-duty option that comes in several different forms. Its adaptability, weather resistant qualities and texture makes it suitable to be utilised in outdoor settings such as:

    • Feature walls
    • Driveway paving
    • Pool coping
    • Outdoor cladding

Indoors, its natural range of colours and textures make for an aesthetically pleasing compliment material to areas in your home that tend to take a bit of a beating such as fireplaces and benches. It is a rare material whose beauty is matched by its ability to resist scrapes, scratches, heat and pressure and maintain a charming air of resilient shine.

    Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers are generally best restricted to outdoor use. It is an economically attractive choice that has an exceptionally wide scope of choice and ability to manipulate to create a look that fits with your home.

The variety of colours and surface textures make it a great option to tie everything together and can be used anywhere outdoors. Concrete driveways are an old favourite, but using concrete pavers for a walkway, around the patio or alfresco area or as stepping stones are also common choices amongst Melbournians.

Concrete pavers are a simple, economic solution when you want to add an understated utility or feature that won’t conflict with any surrounding materials.

    Where To Put What

It’s clear that there is a lot of overlap when it comes to where to put what type of paver. The key is to keep in mind the aesthetic and material strengths and weaknesses so that you can make an informed decision and install pavers where their good qualities can be maximised, and their weaknesses remain unexposed.

  • Choosing pavers is easy!

Choosing pavers is easy! Let’s compare it with choosing a new paint colour…

Have you ever repainted? If you have, you’ll find selecting paver colours is similar to choosing a paint colour in many ways.

    1. When choosing a new paint colour, you usually select some colour swatches, and take them home and look at them in the space you wish to paint.
    2. Then you usually decide on one colour, buy a sample pot, and paint a little of a wall, to check that the colour is really the one you like best.
    3. If it is, you would then buy enough paint to do the job.
    4. Often people buy a little extra paint, to ensure that if they need to do touch ups in the future they will have the exact same colour.

Likewise with pavers, we suggest you:

Visit our showroom, talk with us about which stones and colours would best suit your design, and take home some samples.

    1. Then, when you have decided on a colour and a size, borrow a full size paver from us.
    2. Once you are sure you have selected the right size and colour, place your order for all the pavers you need for the job. Remember that if the pavers you like best aren’t currently in stock, you may need to allow between 7-12 weeks lead time, as our products are sourced from quality quarries around the world.
    3. We usually suggest you purchase 10% more than your measurements indicate, as this allows for cuts that may need to be made, and also gives you a few spare that can be kept under the house in case you need to replace any pavers in the future.

    Not too difficult at all!

  • 4 things you should consider when choosing pavers

    1. The Look-

First things first, do you like the pavers? Take home a sample to see how the paver’s colour blends and/or contrasts with the design and colour of your house. If you don’t love how it looks, return the sample and take home a different sample!

Natural stone pavers can vary in colour and pattern, even when hewn from the same quarry. This is due to the naturally occurring variances within the stone. This is part of the charm and appeal of these pavers. It adds interest and character to the landscape of your outdoor living space. If this is the look you are after, natural stone pavers may be perfect for you.

If you prefer a more homogenous look, you might like to select from our range of hand-crafted concrete pavers.

It is important to be certain of your selection, as once they are laid, removing and replacing pavers can be costly.

    2. Wear and tear

This is very important. Concrete and/or natural stone pavers are a good choice as they can handle high foot traffic. However, some natural stones are more hard-wearing than others. Granite and bluestone are the most durable, whereas sandstone and travertine are softer stones. Even so, all natural stone can last a lifetime, provided you take care of it.

    3. Comfort level

Your comfort is another key consideration that you should bear in mind when making a choice. On hot summer days, travertine, limestone, and marble are the coolest stones underfoot. However, if you are more concerned about glare, perhaps you should consider a darker stone like bluestone, or black granite.

    4. Budget

You always want the best for your home, however, it is still important to keep within your budget.

Concrete is generally cheaper than natural stone. However, not always!

Natural stone varies considerably in price…for example, black granite is dearer than light grey granite. By changing the colour palette of your landscape design, you can still have the beauty of natural stone, at a more affordable price.
